Powerful Godly Woman: Secrets from my Grandmother

When I think of powerful, Godly women, I think of my grandmother. Zella Kate was born in 1884, married young and raised 15 children during the Great Depression. She died before I was ever born, but I know she was a powerful Godly woman because of the testimony of my mother, aunts and uncles. I recall stories where my grandmother...

When I was a child, my daddy was my hero.  To me, he hung the moon. He taught me many skills that I still lean on today, specifically singing and playing piano. There were some other skills that I don't use much, hunting and playing billiards, to name a few.  I didn't think there was much my daddy could not do.  There comes a time though, when we realize that our childhood heros are fallible.  I learned that at the early age of 14,  when my father passed away.

What God Sees

I Samuel 16:7b - ...the Lord sees, not like man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord, He looks on the heart.

God instructed Samuel to go seek out a King for Israel.  God did not tell Samuel in advance, who He was going to choose.  Samuel just had to listen and obey.  God instructed him to go to the house of Jesse, for He had chosen one of Jesse's sons as King.

The Gospel

The Gospel of Christ Jesus.

Sometimes we just need to read it.  Then after we're refreshed by these truths, God stirs our heart.  Our mission is clear.  Matthew 5:16 demands that we shine His light; we must go and tell others.  Our purpose is clear.  God gives us the TRUTH. God blesses us with spiritual gifts and talents.  For HIS sake and glory.  This is where we find true, fulfilling life in Christ.

Peace Like a River

I've got peace like a river in my soul.  Yeah, that is a great kid's song.  It has some really cool motions that go along with the lyrics.  Most days, I can sing it and mean it.  But there are times when I don't feel that peace that I love to sing about.  There are times when the problems of this world overwhelm me.  I find myself in a place where the river is raging and the rapids are about to take me under.

Exist To Win

In our family, baseball is not just a pastime, but a way of life.  Both of my sons play the sport year round.  Over the past 12 years, we have cheered on the bleachers and screamed in the dugouts for about a million baseball games (ok...I'm stretching it for emphasis). Some of those games, we walked away winners, our heads held high, bats on our shoulders.  It was, and still is, a great feeling of accomplishment.

Like A Lion

This verse really scares me.  I don't know about you, but I hate the thought of the devil prowling around me, waiting and watching for ways to destroy me.  What most people don't realize is that he plays this active role in our lives all the time...24-7!

The Spirit of God

Who is the the Holy Spirit?  He is not a force, but the actual Spirit of God.  The Spirit of God has feelings and can be grieved and offended by sin and injustice.  The Spirit of God reacts to sin in our lives and holds us accountable.  When we confess our sin, He not only forgives us, but He also gives us wisdom.  No-one understands us...the good parts and the the Spirit of God.  Ephesians 4:25-32.

Happy Monday

"This is the day that the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it."  Happy ordinary day filled with the regular routines of cleaning, cooking, working, driving, studying, coaching, teaching...I'm sure I've missed many others.... My point is that God wants us to appreciate and enjoy our everyday, ordinary life.  He wants us to worship Him in every little thing, and add to this worship, a spirit of thankfulness.  Worshipping and thanking God in every detail, puts God in his rightful place in our lives:  AT THE TOP!  God not only deserves this position, but demands it! Check out John 4:24!
